Universal Language Curriculum
I stand with and am proud of all my world language colleagues across the country who have dedicated their lives to fighting prejudice, discrimination and hate, and are striving to build intercultural competence, knowledge and understanding in our students.
If you read the research on how intercultural competence develops, it encompasses exactly what happens in our world language classrooms:
- Awareness of my own perspectives, values, beliefs and attitudes.
- Curiosity and knowledge about the perspectives, values, attitudes and beliefs of others, in my own culture and in other cultures.
- Sensitivity, understanding and empathy toward the perspectives of others.
- A decentered and non-judgemental attitude toward other perspectives and cultures.
-TRANSFORMATION of self and the intercultural relationships that we develop.
